
Alfredo Conde Cid (Allariz, 1945) is a merchant navy sailor and does literary journalism, currently for the daily O Correo Galego. In 1968 he published his first work, the book of poems Mencer de lúas [Moon Sunrise]. As prose writer he has published: Mementos de vivos [Mementos of the living] (1974), Contubernio catro de Tomé S. [Conspiracy Four of Tomé S.] (1978, republished in 1987 as O contubernio [Conspiracy]), Come e bebe que o barco é do amo [Drink and Eat Because the Ship Belongs to the Owner] (1978, also republished in 1995 under the title O barco [The Ship]), Breixo (1981, Award Premio da Crítica Española and Premio da Crítica de Galicia), Memoria de Noa [Memory of Noa] (1982, Award Premio Chitón de novela and Premio Ícaro), Xa vai o Griffón no vento [The Griffon in the Wind] (1984, Awards Premio Blanco Amor, Premio da Crítica Española, Premio Nacional de literatura, Premio Grinzane to the best foreign novel published in Italy in 1990), Música sacra [Religious Music] (1990), Sempre me matan [I am Always Killed] (1995) and A Casa de Adara [Adara's Home] (1996).
